Mystic Spray Tan offers customized personal Magne Spray Tan technology which is a patented process that uses the human body's own magnetic properties to attract Mystic Tan spray tanning mist to every exposed surface of the skin. You can customize your spray tan, with bronzing additives to achieve a custom tan of your choice.
When Mystic Spray Tan tanning mist passes through the spray nozzles in a Mystic Tan booth, the micro particles of mist are polarized, taking on the characteristics of “tiny magnets.” These particles adhere evenly to the skin to create an enviable, beautiful island tan that will last 5-7 days.

What to Expect
Spray Tanning Instructions
New to spraying? Don't worry, we've got you covered. Here are our top tips for a flawless tan. See “How do I avoid the orange undertone when tanning” under FAQs below for more detailed information.
Before You Arrive
- •Shave/Wax 18-24 hours prior to coming in: This gives hair follicles enough time to heal/close, allows pH levels to rebalance and guarantees the most consistent overall tan.
- •Exfoliate to remove all dead skin: Come in with clean dry skin. Avoid using lotion before your session as it can create a barrier between skin and spray.
- •Wear loose fitting clothing: To prevent rubbing after your session, wear clothing that is loose fitting and easy to put on.
Before Your Session
- •Undress to comfort level and remove jewelry (the spray mist will wash out of clothing if you choose to wear it)
- •Put on hair cap, leaving ears and hairline exposed
- •Apply a thin layer of blending cream to hands and feet including nails
- •Use sticky feet provided to keep bottom of feet clean
Note: The FDA recommends wearing protective eyewear, nose filters, and lip balm, which will all be provided.
During Your Session
- •Start in Position 1 facing forward with your hands behind your back
- •Then switch to Position 2 facing backwards with hands in front of you

After Your Session
- •Remove blending cream with a wet wipe
- •Get dressed
- •Wash hands with soap and water
After Care
- •Wait a minimum of 4 hours to shower: DHA (dihydroxyacetone) takes 4-6 hours to develop so showering or any wetting of the skin prior to this time will stunt your tan's growth. For darkest results wait up to 24 hours before getting wet, like working out or showering.
- •Avoid HOT water, scrubs and shaving. Exfoliation, salt and chlorine will strip your color faster. Use of Water Therapy or IR Sauna at The Woodhall Way may not be scheduled for at least two days after tanning.
- •Moisturize is key: Give your skin what it craves. HYDRATION. Use a professional daily moisturizer or tan extender. Avoid products that are oil, alcohol or sulphate based.
⚠️ IMPORTANT SCHEDULING NOTE: Spray tans must be done AFTER any cold tub, Bimini, swim spa, hot tub, or sauna sessions. You CANNOT use any water or heat services for 3 days after your spray tan. Please plan accordingly when booking multiple services.
FAQs
How long does a spray tan take?
The spray tan process takes about 3 minutes.
What is DHA?
DHA is dihydroxyacetone. When sprayed on the skin, DHA reacts with the proteins in the skin’s superficial layer to form a golden-brown color. Your skin begins to darken 2-3 hours after application and reaches its peak color within 24 hours. The color will gradually fade through natural exfoliation, just like a tan from the sun.
Do I have to be naked during a spray tan?
No, you don’t have to be naked when you spray tan. While some people prefer to be nude to avoid tan lines, you have the option to wear whatever is most comfortable for you – like a swimsuit or underwear. During your tanning session, bronzer will transfer to your clothing, but don’t worry! All cosmetic bronzers used in our products are water-soluble, meaning it will come out of clothing in the wash.
Can I wear makeup during a spray tan?
It is best to remove all makeup, lotion, deodorant and perfume before a spray tan. Anything on skin can block the solution and cause uneven color, so coming in with clean, bare skin ensures a smooth, flawless tan. A shower and/or wipes will be available for use, if desired. If you will need to shower, arrive early to allow enough time before your scheduled time.
How do I stand during a spray tan?
The Mystic Tan Kyss booth guides you with voice prompts. Just follow the instructions and stand in the two simple positions (forwards and backwards) for even, full-body coverage.
How do I avoid the orange undertone when tanning?
Many people are extremely nervous about getting a spray tan due to the fear of looking orange when they are done. The good news is Mystic Tan products are designed to counter the unwanted orange undertone with an anti-orange complex that uniquely blends the perfect dose of professional-grade ingredients that play nicely with your skin. Follow the step-by-step guideline below for the perfect spray tan:
- 1.Exfoliate and shave the day before you do your spray tan (18-24 hours). Giving your body a good scrub and a smooth shave will maximize the life of your spray tan and allow for a more even color application, keeping the color consistent throughout the duration of your tan.
- 2.On the day of your spray tan do not wear any perfume, deodorant, lotions, oils or face makeup. These products can create a barrier that will prevent the spray tan formula from tanning and decrease its ability to adhere to the skin. A shower is available at The Woodhall Way. Arrive early, if needed.
- 3.Before going into the spray tan unit, make sure you remove your jewelry and apply the Mystic blending lotion on your hands, feet, palms, heels, areas between the fingers and toes and any rough areas like knees and elbows. This prevents those areas from getting sprayed and tanned. Optionally, you can place one of the provided Hair Caps on your hair above the hairline and ears to prevent the spray tan formula from getting into your hair and Sticky Feet to prevent the bottom of your feet from turning orange. You can also use Eye Protection patches and Nose Filters.
- 4.The spray tan unit will step you through your rotation and dry you after each pass with one final drying cycle at the end of the session. It only takes a few minutes for your spray tan to be applied.
- 5.When your tanning session is finished, wipe the blending lotion off your hands and feet using the wipes provided, being careful not to touch any other parts of your body.
- 6.Wear loose fitting clothing and consider the weather. If it's raining, you will want long pants, long sleeves and bring an umbrella to prevent any possibility of spotting.
- 7.You will want to avoid sweating, or getting wet, and yes doing dishes, until your first shower, to prevent any spotting or streaking.
- 8.Your spray tan will start forming over the next 4-8 hours (unless using Accelerator, then it will be quicker). For best results, your first shower should be warm water, NOT hot, and do not use soap or exfoliate your skin. Pat yourself dry instead of rubbing.
- 9.Keep skin moisturized and hydrated after first shower. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize! Do not exfoliate and limit shaving. This will ensure a longer lasting tan.
REMINDER: Make sure that any moisturizing occurs after you shower, and not while your tan is developing.
Bonus Tip 1: Use an Accelerator! Accelerators will speed up the development time to 2-4 hours, which means less stress (See #7). It also increases the longevity of your tan!
Bonus Tip 2: If you want an immediate glowing tan, use one of our bronzers.
How long will my tan last and can I extend my tan?
A spray tan can last up to a week. If you routinely workout or swim, it can fade a little sooner. To avoid a quick fade and to help the tan last longer, it’s important to moisturize daily and also limit or avoid hot tubs.
Will the Mystic Kyss solution cause breakouts and can I use it on sensitive skin?
Mystic Kyss products can and are designed to be used on the face and are non-comedogenic, meaning they won’t clog your pores. If you do have a history of sensitive skin, we recommend talking with your physician before using any products on your skin.
Can streaks and an uneven finish be avoided?
Yes, just follow these simple steps:
- •If you're going to shave or wax, do so at least 12 hours before you tan.
- •Exfoliate and rub-off excess, dead skin for an even tan.
- •Avoid lotion (except barrier cream) before tanning, since lotions can act as a barrier on the skin and cause streaks.
- •Don't forget, after the tanning application, avoid getting wet, like working out or swimming for about 4-6 hours to allow the tan time to develop.
How often can I spray tan?
There are no known health risks to spray tanning, so it’s ultimately up to your discretion how frequently you go. For best results, however, we do not recommend doing more than 1 spray tan in a day.
How often should I tan to maintain color?
This can vary person to person, depending on many factors such as how often you’re sweating, how often (and how hot) you’re showering, if your skin is staying hydrated and well moisturized, the types of products you’re using on your skin (cleansers, lotions, etc.) We find that the 6-8 day range works for most people. Hydrated Skin = Happy tan!
Are there any age restrictions for spray tanning?
Spray tanning is safe for all ages. Children under 16 will need parental permission to use the booth.
